How is hygiene defined and practiced in everyday life? What are people’s hygiene nightmares on the one hand and what doesn’t really bother them on the other hand? We asked museum visitors and staff to list their favourite sanitary products and describe their daily personal hygiene rituals and compulsions. Based on the empirical data, we developed a concept for an exhibition to be shown in the five visitor’s toilets of the Imperial Furniture Collection. Excerpts from forty questionnaires are also featured in a ‘toilet newspaper’ created for the exhibition.
Methodology: questionnaires and qualitative interviews
